Looking For Bed Bugs? Here Is How To Spot Their Presence

Bed bugs are sneaky creatures. They like the dark. They like warmth. If they do not want to be seen, you will not see them. However, the string of itchy spots along a vein on your body may announce that you have a problem. If you need some other telltale signs that bed bugs are present, here are a few.

You Are Sleeping on Bed Bug Poop

As if these pesky pests were not gross enough, they process the blood they take from you and leave behind fecal deposits on your mattress. That is correct; you may be sleeping on bed bug poop! To find these nasty little deposits, peel back your bed sheet and look in the crevices of the mattress, especially along the seams. If you see several small flecks of black stuff that appears loose and easy to move, that is bed bug feces!

Only One Bed in the House Seems to Have a Problem

If you are the only one waking up with itchy spots, and everyone else wakes up without an itch to scratch, that is another sign you may have bed bugs. Unlike other biting insects that will travel and fly to other hosts, bed bugs are lazy and will not go any farther than their known meal host. If a child climbs into bed with you and suddenly wakes up with bite marks or finds his/her bed is an itchy place, the bugs latched on to the child and were transferred to your kid's bed. They will not crawl out of the room and away from "home" to "eat out at another locale."

Bad Infestations Always Leave a Few Bugs Crawling in the Open

If you have an exceptionally bad infestation of bed bugs, not only will you wake up in what looks like hives, but there will not be enough dark spaces to hide and support the population. As such, these pests may push a few of their kind out into the open. In the areas where the bugs like to urinate and defecate, you will find a few "loners" crawling about. This tells you that A) you definitely have bed bugs, and B) you have so many bed bugs that not all of them can hide from you in your mattress and around your bed. At this point, you definitely need to call bed bug extermination services, like Bisaillon's Rid All Termite & Pest Solutions, to rid your home of this problem pest.
